For those who are looking for different ways to add more steps to their FitBit tracker, or those who are just looking to be a bit more active and mobile and feel healthier, these are for you!
If you are like us here at Okanagan Athletic Therapy, who like to keep track of our step counts and make sure we are getting in enough daily steps and are looking for simple ways to increase your daily step count, then read on.
Simple, yet Sneaky Ways (you may not have thought of) to increase your step count
- Park farther away- whether at the mall or grocery store, instead of finding the closest parking stall, deliberately park at the farthest parking stall and walk into the store.
- Walk on your lunch break- great to do with a coworker!
- Take a walk after dinner- This will help you digest your meal and clear your head or de-stress from the busy day you just had.
- Take the stairs- skip the elevator or the escalator and walk up or down the stairs.
- Talk face to face- walk to a coworker instead of emailing/calling them when you are in the same office building.
- End your trip early- if you take the bus or taxi, get out a few blocks earlier than your stop and walk the rest of the way
- Walk the track- a lot of hockey arenas or local rec centers have a track that you can walk around for free at certain times during the day.
- Seasonal Activity- shovel your drive way and walk way in Winter
- Seasonal Activity- plant a garden in the Spring
- Seasonal Activity- rake your leaves in the Fall
- Seasonal Activity- mow your lawn in the Summer
- Take an extra lap- easy to do at the grocery store or mall. You never know, you might have missed something that you needed!
- Use the other bathroom- instead of using the closest one, use the one that is farther away from you
- Vacuum your house- I’m sure it needs it anyways J
- Sweep- the house, the outside deck, the walkway, it doesn’t matter!
- Wash the car
